Emerald

Emerald is the BIRTH STONE for May and the anniversary gemstone for the 20th and 35th years of marriage.
Emerald is the green variety of the mineral beryl. Emerald's precious green color is caused by small amounts of chromium and enhanced by traces of iron. Emerald often contain inclusions and other flaws. These flaws are not considered as negatives. The most desirable Emeralds are bright green and as close as possible to being free from inclusions. Emerald has a denser color than CZ which is colored green and has the natural flaws that give the stone its character. Emerald is one of the harder colored stones. It has a hardness rating of about 7.5 to 8 making it a harder than the average colored stone.

Emeralds have been cherished for as long as there has been a written history. Archaeologists have traced the origins of the use of emerald to almost 3000 B.C. in both ancient Egypt and India. Cleopatra prized her emeralds more than any other gem. The Moguls of India loved emeralds so much they inscribed them with sacred text and wore them as talismans.

Lower priced Emeralds are not plentifully and at present we are
only able to offer one variety of Sterling Silver Ring with an Emerald

Rings have been enlarged to show detail. Each stone, and ring varies a little.
