Citrine is a quartz crystal. The colors range from yellow to orange. Yellow Citrine is somewhat rare in nature, but by heating Quartz stones such as Amethyst the colors can be changed to golden yellow to orange. Citrine that has been heat treated tends to have more of the red tones resulting in attractive golden colors. The heat treatment process usually produces a permanent color change. In nature the heat of volcanos can convert different varieties of quartz to the yellow and golden hues. Citrine has a more denser richer color than CZ which is colored yellow.
